About

The game

The Ninth Frame is a free strategy game you play in your browser. You place boxes on a square board, join them into clusters, surround and win over your opponent's boxes, and build a fort for your king.

Its master idea comes from the old board game Go: defence is an attack that hasn't happened yet. Every box you place guards something and threatens something.

Two games

Classic is a race to wall in a safe space, finish your fort and crown your king. Rat and Cat is a fight for room on a growing board, where the side that's being squeezed gets the chance to break out.

How to play

Play the computer and climb the 10-level ladder, or pass one device between two players. There's nothing to install and no account to make.

Who makes it

The Ninth Frame is an independent game made in Melbourne, Australia. The rules, art and sound are original to this game.
